Rick Hanson established Hanson Cattle Company in 1975 as a typical cattle operation. Ten years later
Hanson Cattle Co. started focusing on roping cattle. Starting with only 10 head of cattle Hanson Cattle
began producing Jackpot ropings and increasing his herd to accomodate the growth. In 1988 Hanson
Cattle stopped producing ropings and focused on leasing cattle to producers as well as to cowboys who
wanted to hone their skills and keep in practice. Today Hanson Cattle Co. has grown to
ranches in Taylor and
Shackelford and Throckmorton Counties of Texas.

Hanson Cattle uses only Corriente cattle in its
operation. Experience has proven that the Corriente
cattle have the right temperament for rodeo events and
they are extremely durable. The cattle are brought to
Hanson Cattles 15,000 acre ranch, vaccinated and
dewormed, placed on feed and observed to insure that
they are healthy and ready to use. The health program
used by Hanson Cattle has proven to help provide
healthier, easier keeping cattle for their customers.

When cattle are returned off of a lease they are once again dewormed and
given vitamins and turned out to pasture to allow them ample time to freshen
up for future customers. Hanson Cattle classifies their cattle as Fresh cattle,
which are the rodeo caliber cattle, and practice cattle, which are more suited
to be used by cowboys for practice or horse training.
